Peter Brett

Peter has been an author for over 30 years. He is well known in the field of construction and its education and training systems. His resources continue to remain a popular choice with students, tutors and skilled practitioners.

He has had over 20 years experience as a tutor in a variety of establishments including:

  • Teacher of Design Technology in a school
  • Senior Instructor for Carpentry and Joinery in a Government training centre
  • Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer 1
  • Carpentry and Joinery Curriculum Co-ordinator Lecturer 2
  • Multi-crafts Co-ordinator Senior Lecturer
  • Principal Lecturer for Wood Trades (Carpentry and Joinery, Shop Fitting, Wood Machining and Furniture Crafts)
  • Head of Faculty for Construction Crafts

In addition to teaching he has also been involved with education and training developments on a voluntary basis including:

  • City and Guilds as an examiner, chairperson and construction training consultant, where he was involved with the development of behavioural objectives and multi-choice questioning techniques
  • Construction Skills (formally CITB) where he was involved with the development and introduction of NVQs in Carpentry and Joinery
  • Learning and Skills Council (formally TEC) where he was chairperson for a construction skills compact, bringing together employers and training providers to develop and share best practices
  • British Council and Overseas Development Agency where he was involved in localisation of construction examinations and the training of examiners in developing counties

Peter is now back in industry, undertaking Design, Value Engineering, Systems Analysis and Consultancy for Construction projects on a freelance basis. He also available on request as Guest Speaker and Guest Lecturer engagements.
